Privacy Policy

This policy covers two versions of Word Junction: the free web version (daily puzzle only, played at this website) and the iOS app (daily puzzle plus Levels, practice, boosters, coins, and optional subscriptions). They collect different information — see the relevant section below for whichever version you use. If you only play the web version, the App-only sections (accounts, in-app purchases, Game Center/iCloud) do not apply to you.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Word Junction ("we", "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you. We collect as little personal information as possible in both versions.
Who we are

Web version (daily puzzle only)
The web version at this site offers only the daily puzzle. It does not require an account, does not include levels, boosters, coins, or purchases, and collects minimal data:
- Anonymous identifier: a temporary anonymous session/identifier (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication) so the App can show you the correct daily puzzle and, if applicable, your streak in that browser session.
- Gameplay data: your result for the daily puzzle (moves used, completion), to display your outcome and any community statistics.
- Advertising/diagnostic data: if ads are shown on the web version, our advertising provider may collect device/browser data as described under "Third-party services" below. Basic diagnostic data may be collected to fix bugs.
The web version does not collect your name, email address, or payment information, and has no accounts, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.
iOS app (daily, practice, levels, and more)
The iOS app includes everything in the web version, plus a Levels progression mode, a virtual coin/booster economy, and an optional ad-free subscription. It collects the following, in addition to the web version's data:
- Gameplay & progress data: level progress, stars, streaks, coin balance, and booster inventory, so your progress can be saved and restored.
- Optional account linking: if you choose to sign in (e.g. via Game Center or iCloud), your progress can sync across your own devices using your Apple ID. This is optional — the app is fully playable without signing in.
- Purchase data: if you make an in-app purchase or subscribe, Apple processes the transaction and shares limited purchase confirmation data with us (e.g. that a purchase was completed) — we do not receive or store your payment card details, which are handled entirely by Apple.
- Advertising data: as described under "Third-party services" below.
Information we collect (summary)
In short: an anonymous identifier and your gameplay results in both versions; additionally, progress/coin data and (if you opt in) account-linking and purchase confirmation data in the iOS app only.
We do not require your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information to play either version of Word Junction.
How we use this information
- To save and restore your puzzle progress, streaks, coins, and level state
- To generate the shared daily puzzle and community statistics (such as average moves for a level)
- To display advertising and measure ad performance
- To diagnose crashes and improve the App
Third-party services we use
- Firebase (Google): anonymous authentication, database storage (Firestore), and backend functions — used by both the web version and the iOS app. See Firebase's privacy practices.
- Google AdMob: advertising, where shown — used by both versions where applicable. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple (Game Center, iCloud, In-App Purchase): iOS app only. Used for optional leaderboards/achievements, syncing progress across your own devices, and processing purchases/subscriptions. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell your information. Data is shared only with the service providers listed above, solely to operate whichever version of the App you use (hosting, storage, advertising, and — for the iOS app — purchase processing).
Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the UK or EEA, you have the right to:
- Request access to the data associated with your anonymous identifier
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for personalised advertising at any time via the consent prompt or your device/browser ad settings
- Object to or restrict certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact jonbee75@hotmail.com, letting us know whether you used the web version or the iOS app, and provide any identifier you have (e.g. the in-app player ID found in Settings, for app users) so we can locate your data.
Children's privacy
Word Junction is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention
Gameplay data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see "Your rights" above).
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
